Leveraging proprietary technology, we reduce the coefficient of friction between the grooved surface and the sizing roller, thereby lowering the drive torque required for the Metering rod and extending the service life of both the sizing bar and the sizing roller. Under the same bar-to-roller pressure, this improves film and paper quality while reducing the likelihood of abnormal wear on the metering rod. By leveraging the characteristics of the coating, we improve the release effect between the coating material and the coating bar, effectively reducing groove blockage. We offer grooves of various specifications based on customer product requirements, thereby achieving different coating amounts and film quality.

Applications of HM Coating Metering Rods

The metering rods of a sizing machine applies a coating layer to the surface of base paper, cardboard, or film, laying a solid foundation for subsequent coating processes. This improves the surface quality of the paper, enhances coating uniformity, and enhances the appearance and printability of coated paper, thereby producing high-quality paper or film. The metering bar coating system primarily consists of four major components: the metering bar, the coating roller, the coating tank, and the drive control system.

HM sizing machine metering rods are widely used in research, testing, and quality control across industries such as coatings, inks, papermaking, film, and electronics. Our extrusion-type metering bars replace existing wire scrapers, eliminating the drawbacks of wire scrapers—such as wire breakage, clogging, difficulty in cleaning, and
inability to coat ultra-thin films—thereby bringing a new advancement to the thin-film coating industry.

Coating Metering Rod Quality and Troubleshooting

The metering rods for HM coating machines are manufactured using precision molds and cold-pressing technology to create raised and recessed wavy lines on the surface of the steel rods, resulting in rods with grooves of various shapes. The smooth, flowing curves on the surface make cleaning very easy. These grooves enable precise control of wet film thickness. Since the rod does not break, cleaning is also easier. It delivers accurate and repeatable surface coating for most substrates. Most notably, it overcomes the limitations of traditional wire rod applicators by achieving a wet film thickness as low as 1.5 μm, thereby solving the challenge of ultra-thin film coating.

Metering rods are primarily used for flow control. Our company also offers smooth rods designed to control the rheology of liquids. These smooth rods have a smooth, embossing-free surface, similar to stainless steel rods, and undergo special surface treatment. Coating with smooth rods relies primarily on the adsorption or penetration of the coating into the substrate to ensure uniform distribution across the substrate’s surface.
